Pull up your pants

I just have to say this…

I may not be speaking for all women, but I’m pretty sure I am speaking for a good majority of them.

Men…pull up your pants!

It’s one thing to be a plumber or a construction guy where you wear a heavy tool belt and that weighs down your pants. While it’s not necessarily a pretty sight, as a matter of fact, it can be quite blinding to experience a plumber crack, it’s at least excusable.

On the other hand, when a guy wears his pants without a belt so that they droop past his hips and you see the top of his boxers or tighty-whiteys that is a whole different story. That is NOT attractive. I mean seriously, do women go around flashing you so you see the color of our panties?

OH-MY-GOSH! What if you have skid marks on your drawers. How is that going to attract some interested female? [SHUDDER] Ew! If I saw that I would turn tail and bolt for the nearest door.

And what is with these other guys who not only forego a belt so that the world is exposed to far too much detail on the posterior, but who actually buy their pants two sizes too big on purpose. Is this some new kind of mating ritual that skipped right past me? Does the sight of men’s underwear hanging out of their pants turn some women on? Or perhaps it is the sight of a man trying to walk with his slacks hanging around his knees without them slipping all the way to their ankles.

There are only two, maybe three reasons a man should have his pants at his knees and since I am too much of a lady to tell you, I will let you use your imagination.

Now that you’ve cleared your mind of those instructional videos let’s return to our subject at hand. Men…pull up your pants!

Men, do you really think the woman of your dreams is going to swoon at your feet if she sees you wearing your underwear on the OUTSIDE of your pants? Or the lady of your desire is going to fall into your arms if she sees you bent over a water fountain and instead of seeing a firm tight ass that she would like to caress she is smacked in the face with the visual of a furry crack. AT that point the poor woman would be screaming down the hall yelling, “My eyes! My eyes!”

For all us women out there who love a man in a pair of jeans, please wear your pants around your waist and leave a little room for our very vivid imagination.

And if that doesn't give you incentive then think back to what your mama saud when you were about the age of three.

"Pull up your pants, honey. You're a big boy now."

Author event at local business involves social networking

Last week I posted a blog about how to support your local author. This week, I thought I would share with you some photos and quips about how a local book event went.

This past Saturday, Nora LeDuc and I had a book event at Big Easy Bagel in Manchester. I have known Nora and the owners of Big Easy Bagel for years so to host event there and with Nora makes the event that much more comfortable. I also know many of the regular customers so it’s always nice to see smiling and supportive faces.

I believe that a successful event is not necessarily one in which you sell out of books, but is one in which you have fun and reach one new reader. I surpassed my goal so this was a very successful event.

In addition, a successful event benefits not just the authors, but also the local business that hosts the event. Big Easy benefited because everyone who came in to buy a book or see the authors bought a cup of coffee, a bagel, or some French fries, etc. I mentioned that win-win situation in Friday’s blog post.

To top that off, some writer friends showed up to support Nora and I so we had the opportunity to talk with people we had not seen in a while. One of those writers is Stephanie Giancola who writes a national column for Examiner.com. You can see her columns here: http://www.examiner.com/x-2533-Romance-Novel-Examiner. Between Stephanie and me, we will both write up an article (or in my case a blog post) on the event and include some pictures. This will further promote the authors, the restaurant (Big Easy Bagel), and Stephanie’s column.

This is the epitome of social networking and marketing at its best.

The next event that Nora and I will be at together is February 13, at Toadstool Bookstore in Milford http://toadbooks.com/. Stephanie Giancola will be there as well as a few more writer friends and hopefully some friends who own www.youdontsaynotogirls.com. Afterwards we plan on celebrating the event the same way we celebrated the book event at Big Easy Bagel – with margaritas. We will be visiting the local Three Amigos in Milford afterwards. See…social networking.

A B Cs of Simple Social Networking Tips for Writers

A B C s of Social Networking
by a non-expert

The little tips I am about to share with you are simple and straightforward and everyone can and should do them.

A. If you visit someone’s blog – leave a comment.

It is fine and dandy that you send the blogger an email and tell him/her how much you enjoyed the article but you as the responder get no exposure. How will anyone but the blogger know you liked or disliked, or shared a comment about the post.

By leaving a comment, even a small one, more people know you exist. How? Other visitors see your image/avatar next to the comment or your website/blog URL and they click on it and visit your site.

B. If someone leaves you a comment – return the favor and visit his or her blog, leave a comment.

Visiting the blog of someone who was kind enough to leave a comment on your blog will give you an opportunity to find someone else of interest. You could end up following their blog or maybe follow someone else’s blog you find a link to off his/her post.

On top of that, this gives you more opportunity to expose yourself. Every time you leave a comment on another person’s blog you increase your exposure and the chance to get more followers.

C. If you read it – Tweet about it.

This is the simplest thing to do. Half the time there is a button or link on someone’s blog that you can click that will let you leave a Tweet on Twitter about what you just read.

If you found the link to the blog you just read on Twitter, be sure to RT (re-tweet) who you found it from and the link to the blog.

Why? Tweeting gives you an even greater amount of exposure because most people have higher volumes of followers through Twitter than their blog. Tweeps on Twitter are reciprocal and tend to pass the word or in this case tweet to all their tweeps.

Remember social networking only works by spreading the word and these three simple ABCs of networking will make you not an expert, but will get you exposure and the opportunity to meet many interesting and like-minded people.
