Cafe Conversation

If you are like me, you enjoy going out to eat. Have you noticed that on occasion (not all the time) eavesdrop on conversation between other patrons? Sometimes they are so very interesting.

Unfortunately, you can't always hear what two people are saying to each other, you can only read the body language. For example: A woman leans over and whispers into a man's ear while her hand brushes up his thigh. He glances around then holds her hand in place while biting his lip.

Get the picture?

Are they married? Not married? Lovers?

Your writing exercise for today is to write a dialogue between these two, maybe three people sitting at a cafe, pizza joint, or bar. Tell us what they are saying to each other and how. Let's see some body language.

Dialogue Writing Prompt

Since the inner monologue really kicked off my creativity (actually kind of scary what came out), I thought I would pass this one on. A dialogue prompt.

This one you get 30 minutes to write a dialogue between two characters using appropriate speech differences and movement. Here's the idea. . .

Write a dialogue in which each of the characters has a secret. Do not reveal the secret but make the reader intuit it.

Feel free to share what you come up with.

Inner Monologue Writing Prompt

I'm taking a creative writing course and this week one of the writing sessions had us starting with a prompt and then taking 10 minutes to write an inner monologue.

I thought I would share the prompt with you all and see if it could ignite any creative juices. Good luck!

Write a brief inner monologue beginning with the words, “What I could never tell you…”

Feel free to share what you write.
