Standing on the corner was the woman whose face Jane could pick out of a crowd of hundreds. Her skin prickled and she felt lightheaded from the shock of seeing her.

People were rushing by the woman but she never moved. How long would she stand there? If Jane dared blink, would she disappear again?

Jane released the breath she was holding but the next one brought with it a searing pain in her chest. The day this woman went away was the worst day of Jane's life. The police investigation found nothing but Jane had to know why. She would never rest until all her questions were answered.

Tears were running down the woman's face and Jane reached up to wipe them away. The pretty blue felt hat she was wearing was old now but Jane remembered it when it was new. She was 29 years old the day she disappeared, the same age as Jane is now.

"Are you alright love?" Mrs Jennings asked as she was leaving the corner store. Jane turned away from her mother and said, "Oh yes, I'm fine thank you. Just being silly." She turned back quickly but her mother was gone.

Reflected now in the store window, was only herself wearing her mother's pretty blue felt hat.

April,

All it takes is minutes to respond to a prompt. It can be just one sentence. Come on, you can shre some of your writing!

Elbow to the ribs. :-)
