Finding a body...

Wednesday, at least I think it was Wednesday, I posted a different kind of writing prompt. Instead of giving the beginning of a sentence and letting your mind go, I offered up a scenario.

The scenario was your hero or heroine finding a dead body.

Here is my hero and heroine finding a dead body:

He parked the SUV, checked his weapon, and got out.

Samantha opened the door to the cottage and gasped.

Max looked past her through the open door. His gaze moved beyond the living room to the dining room, and that was when Max saw what caused Samantha to go rigid and freeze in her tracks. She finally found Brad. Pushing past her, he entered the house, careful not to touch anything. She followed in his wake.

When he reached the dining room, he stopped and glanced over his shoulder. Samantha stood right behind him, wringing her hands and blinking back tears. Her lip quivered. Max touched her and tugged her into his embrace tucking her head into his shoulder. She shivered.

“No honor among thieves,” he mumbled as he got to his feet.

“You – you think. . .” she stuttered as she pulled back to look up at him, her eyes flooded with tears.

What could he say? That her childhood sweetheart and longtime friend was a well-known and wanted criminal. “I think Brad met the wrong people.”
